
I received a sad and shocking message from a chickeneering friend in town this week; when he went to collect eggs mid afternoon, his favorite Silkie hen was in a nest box, deceased. Temperatures have been in the single digits and she hadn't been there more than a few hours. Her passing was not in vain, however, as we can learn some important lessons for our own flocks from her untimely end.
